Choreography

"Modish" was performed in 2014 in Southern Utah University's "Collected Objects" dance concert. This was a modern dance featuring 5 female dancers. The piece begins with the dancers walking around the stage, slowly beginning to add in additional movements to their walk, and mimicking each other when they see the additions and become envious. Eventually the dancers become more and more frantic as they try to incorporate all of the various new movement standards. The lights go out, and when they reappear they have been dimmed and the stage has a much more somber appearance. Deep instrumental string music is intermixed with sections of Katie Makkai's spoken word poem, "Pretty".  The dancers go throughout this second section applying makeup that has been placed throughout the stage, growing more and more frantic as they try to cover up their "flaws" and make themselves "presentable".

My piece "No Regrets" was performed in 2011 in Southern University's "Breaking Bounds" concert.  This was a contemporary work featuring 4 female dancers and 4 male dancers who partnered together throughout the piece.  The dance explored the questions that can come to mind when one runs into an ex from the past.  When chemistry returns upon meeting again, doubts often surface about why the relationship was terminated in the first place, and it is easy to question whether or not the right decision was made.
